Prior to the PSNA Annual Summit, PSNA and N2P members got together to celebrate PSNA’s 120th Anniversary.

Pittsburgh-area nurses sold out PSNA’s second Steelers Tour. Guests networked while exploring Heinz Field, locker rooms, and the luxury club suites. We even got close to all six Super Bowl trophies!

PSNA N2P visited Harrisburg for our annual Legislative Day. Members met with lawmakers, connected with PSNA leaders, and explore the city.

PSNA’s N2P leaders had a great visit to Erie, visiting nursing schools and holding a networking night at The Bullfrog Bar. It’s a long drive from Harrisburg but one of our favorite places to go!

N2P networked at the Reading Phils as we soaked up the last few weeks of summer. We enjoyed a picnic buffet, beautiful weather, and excellent company. Guests included N2P and experienced nurses who could offer insight on the profession. Thank you to Harrisburg University for sponsoring this event.

Pittsburgh N2P came out for an Escape Room networking night. RNs made professional connections as they took part in an immersive, multi-room challenge.

The Lehigh Valley N2P had a blast cheering on the Phantoms. We met new members, danced with MeLVin the mascot, and connected with RNs from the area. Thank you to our sponsor, Grand Canyon University.

In October 2016, N2P Northeast Leader Caroline Toomey and N2P Ashlee Homer took to Washington, DC to participate in the American Nurse Advocacy Institute hosted by ANA. ANAI is a prestigious year-long mentored program for the purpose of developing nurses into political leaders while expanding the grassroots capacity for the nursing profession and health care. Upon completion, each ANAI Fellow is equipped to advise the SNA in establishment of legislative / regulatory priorities, recommend strategies for execution of the advancement of a policy issue, and educate members about the political realities as well as assist in advancing nursing’s agenda.

N2P Ashlee Homer, RN, testified today before the House Children & Youth Committee regarding neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). “Taking care of NAS babies requires extra resources … RNs must find the balance between meeting the medical and social needs for each baby and their family while determining how best to provide nursing care for each one individually. Some infants do better with nearly constant movement while holding them. Others do better in a dark, non-stimulating environment. It is heartbreaking to watch these smallest patients cry inconsolably and feed uncoordinated. This can cause growth delays, tremors and sometimes seizures. The child may also experience very limited to no bonding experiences with its parents.”
